cholay chaat (south asian cowboy caviar)

Core Ingredients
- 2 cans chickpeas
- 0.5 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 medium potato
- 2 tbsp red onion
- 1 chopped tomato
- 3 serranos
- 1 tsp garam masala
Extra Ingredients
- green sauce
- yogurt
- cilantro
- tamarind chutney
- sprinkle of tortilla chips/crackers
Instructions
- Microwave chopped potatoes to cook them a bit.
- In a medium saucepan add chickpeas, 1 cup of water, cubed potatoes and the baking soda over medium heat. Cook for about 10 minutes to soften chickpeas.
- When they become tender mash a few with a spoon. Add salt and chili powder.
- Mix into a bowl with red onion, chopped tomato, serranos and garam masala.
